J'aime, je n'aime pas - Ed Puzzle!
In English this is A, AN or ONE, SOME, ANY -- To translate this notion, the French use a combination of 2 articles ; the indefinite article (un, une, des, negative = pas de), and the partitive article (du, de la, de l', des, negative pas de). I put a video below that your teacher may show you in class!
De is for negative (remember - it always switches to de in singular for any negative sentences!)
As-tu des fruits? Non. Je n'ai pas de fruit.
De la = Feminine
Du = Masculine
De l'___ = Vowels
Des = Plural (gender doesn't matter for plural)
-When this is used in a negative expression, de is used by itself—for example:
Voulez-vous de la viande? (Do you want any meat?) Non, je ne veux pas de viande.
Avez-vous des livres? (Do you have any books?) Non, nous n’avons pas de livre.
Why is this important? Pourquoi est-ce que c'est important?
Because you want to be able to order food, express your needs and wants, and understand French people!

- For masculine nouns: de + le = du--e.g., du lait (some milk).
- For feminine nouns: de + la = de la--e.g., de la viande (some meat).
- For nouns that begin with a vowel or a silent h: de + l’ = de l’—e.g., de l’eau (some water).
- For plural nouns of either gender: de + les = des--e.g., des animaux (some animals or any animals).
