***New: Please read so that we are constantly working on the subjunctive http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/Introduction-to-the-Subjunctive.topicArticleId-25660,articleId-25647.html (in the left toolbar you'll need to read the articles on present subjunctive only.)

Le Livre Numérique - Pour ou Contre? I realized the second Article ("Pourquoi le livre numérique est-il si cher?) is missing the 2nd page, so here it is (click to enlarge & print), it goes right after "La question du prix unique", as you can see by the subjonctif "soit" that goes right after "prévoit que le tarif du livre... soit fixé par l'éditeur..." ->
You may bring notes about the persuasive language you find in the articles to class. This is less about hard fact than it is information about the general topic and a persuasive argument. You must do your definitions before next class, using a FRENCH-only dictionary, for example le Petit Robert (Hardcover) or Larousse.com : http://www.larousse.com/en/dictionaries/french/pol%C3%A9mique Rather than do a formal essay, I am giving you the choice between writing A) an article in a French student Newspaper, or B) an opinionated blog entry (to be done in-class) More Subjonctif Practice (optional): http://www.podcastfrancaisfacile.com/exercices/2007/11/subjonctif-exer.html Example AP Course Outlines (so you can have a good idea of what this year is about) http://blogs.sd41.bc.ca/south-languages/french/ap-french-12/ AP French resources: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/teachers_corner/2152.html Be ready to do a LOT of writing and speaking with Mlle Jarvis & the class. |

1) Direct Object Pronouns Feuille d'Exercices
-> finding it tough? This page web should help: http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/objectpronouns.htm
Tips:
Mlle Jarvis says if you can ask yourself " subject + verb + what" , the answer becomes le / la / les
ex: Il prend le livre. -> Il prend quoi? le livre! -> Il le prend.
if you can ask yourself " subject + verb + who" , the answer becomes me/te/leur/nous/vous/leurs
ex: J'adore toi! -> Je t'adore!
if you can ask yourself " subject + verb + some of what" , the answer becomes en
ex: Il a mangé du pain. -> Il a mangé some of what? Some bread! -> Il en a mangé.
if you can ask yourself " subject + verb + where " , the answer becomes y
ex: Il est allé au parc. --> Il est allé où? Au parc! --> Il y est allé.
2) Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amélie Poulain (film)
---> Write a SUBSTANTIAL 5-8 phrase paragraph that
A) describes the film & your opinions (Present-tense) using the vocabulary from the package (use generic film vocab AND film-specific vocab)
B) Predicts what will happen next (Le Futur Simple - elle fera / elle vera / elle ira ... need help? http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/future.htm )
C) use http://www.wordreference.com/enfr/ to find words and conjugations (click the little arrows => to see conjugations)
http://bonpatron.com/en/ to check your text & correct it.
and http://www.acapela-group.com/text-to-speech-interactive-demo.html to practice how to share what you wrote verbally with the class.
*Keep track of the relationships as the movie goes along
*Don't ruin the ending!! Avoid looking it up online!
I had planned for you to watch the movie trailer and answer the questions up to the end of page 120, but then I realized that watching the trailer gives too much of the movie away, so just answer what you can from just watching what we've seen so far. - Mlle J
