Remarks and advice
You should have no problem in learning and memorising the letters of the alphabet, but becareful with the following E and I, G and J.
Some of the individual letters can have accents, which change the way they are pronounced. Following are the different versions: â, ç, é, è, ê, î, ï. These are not different or additional letters, they are merely letters with accents.
The letter H is not pronounced, or to be more accurate, is pronounced very lightly.
The pronunciation of letters is also affected by their position. If the last letter of a word is a consonant, it is not pronounced unless:
For words with more than one syllable, the stress is always on the last syllable. If you can practice this, your French will be much better understood.
Homework: Put 20 sheets of looseleaf paper in a duo-tang, label each page with french numbers 1-40 double-sided. Make a cover page for this Journal with months & seasons in French. Get your Classroom Expectations form signed by a parent.
mardi, le 20 septembre - Block F: " see above "
mercredi, le 21 septembre - Block C: Review: French numbers, especially 70-99, which are tough numbers! Emphasis on dashes (vingt-et-un). Writing the date.
New Concepts: Telling time in the 24-hour clock in French. "Il est ___ heure(s)" Ex: 3:20pm becomes "Il est quinze heures vingt" OR 15h20
Download a helpful guide for telling time in the 24-hour clock here: http://d.pr/j3fq
Listen to the pronunciation of numbers here: http://www.chillola.com/at/numbers%20french.html
Homework: Journal Entry about what you have learned in French class so far. Reflect on the lessons - what was difficult? What was easy? Quiz study worksheets (5): *FOR COMPLETION MARKS* Telling time (double sided), Alphabet + days of the week, counting & colouring, Numbers practice (double-sided).
Play these games (below!) to help study for your quiz. Try to beat your time & tell Mme Jarvis what times you got next class.
Finish numbering duo-tang pages for the Journal & your Seasons & Months title page if you didn't already complete it.
Get your Classroom Expectations form signed by a parent, or else you will not get your marks back.

vendredi, le 23 septembre - Block C: QUIZ version A: Numbers, days, months, seasons, telling time in the 24-hour clock, writing out the date.
New Concepts: Les Noms (French Nouns), Les Articles (French Articles), Le Genre des Noms (The Gender of French Nouns)
***If you could not read the overhead projector you can download the notes here: LES NOMS: http://d.pr/N71O
LES ARTICLES: http://d.pr/OVip
Homework: I gave you four double-sided handouts. I only want you to do 2/4 the handouts. I will explain the other two next day.
1) "Les Articles Définis et Indéfinis" (has lots of images) Show me that you know which nouns are masculine or feminine
feminine by either circling in different colours or writing (m) or (f) next to each noun.
2) "Les Dictionnaires" - DOWNLOAD HERE: http://d.pr/YzCp Find out how to explain the differences between
-A Monolingual Dictionary (Find an example, explain its function)
-An Electronic / Online Dictionary (Find an example, explain its function)
-A Visual Dictionary (Find an example, explain its function)
-A Bilingual Dictionary (Find an example, explain its function)
How is one kind of dictionary different from another? I have a visual dictionary in my classroom if you want to come and look at it.
Use Google to help you figure this out, or ask your parents or older siblings - be resourceful :) if you go to http://www.wordreference.com/fren it will translate anything from French to English or vice-versa. I hope this helps! If you're still confused let me know, but I think you should be able to trust yourself to try!!
--> The other side of the Dictionary page has contracted articles (example: L'eau) instead of regular articles (le, la)
Use your dictionaries to figure out which nouns are feminine and which nouns are masculine and write the answers underneath using (m) and (f)
3) Next class
4) Next class
Week 2:
lundi, le 26 septembre - PRO-D Day (No school for students)
mardi, le 27 septembre - Block F: QUIZ version B: Numbers, days, months, seasons, telling time in the 24-hour clock, writing out the date.
mercredi, le 28 septembre - Block C: Les Articles Définis et Indéfinis. Les Couleurs. "Quelle est ta couleur préférée? Ma couleur préférée est le bleu!"
Les Devoirs: 1) 'Les Crayons de Couleur' feuille de travail (colour & write "C'est un crayon _______ " in each)
--> download BOTH sides of the sheet if you were absent: http://d.pr/X6mO (side #1) http://d.pr/V24P (side #2)
2) Feuille Violet (Purple Vocabulary Sheet) - Show French noun with article (be sure to show gender in the next column (m.or f.), then show me that you know they are all nouns. )
this may help: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/languages/french/subjects/school.shtml
3) Finish the white worksheets that I handed out last class, on Les Articles Définis et Indéfinis
4) Finish the Dictionary worksheet if you haven't already 5) REMINDER: Get your parents' signature(s) on your Classroom Expectations inorder to see your Quiz mark!

jeudi, le 29 septembre - Le Bloc F: " see above "
vendredi, le 30 septembre - Le Bloc C: *due: colours worksheet (double-sided), Les Dictionnaires worksheet http://d.pr/YzCp , Gender of Definite nouns worksheet.
Today: Practice speaking about favorite music, favorite colours:
Q:"Quelle est ta couleur préférée?" A: "Ma couleur préférée est le bleu!"
Q: "Quelle est ta groupe musicale préférée?" A: "Ma groupe musicale préférée est The Red Hot Chili Peppers!"
A: "La groupe musicale préférée de Nicole est Aerosmith!"
Q: "Quel est ton chanteur préféré? A: "Le chanteur préférée de Sara est Justin Beiber!" /
Q: "Quel est ta chanteuse préférée? A: "La chanteuse préférée de Rayman est Lady Gaga!" (féminin!)
Labeling classroom objects: correct the purple sheet together, watch out for definite VS. indefinite articles!
New Concept: Plural endings of nouns. General rule: add ~s like in English.
Exceptions: Singular --> Plural Ending
~al ~aux
~eu , ~au , ~eau +x
~ou +x
~ s , ~z or ~x NO CHANGE
Silent Pronunciation and Plural Determiners:
It is important to note that, whereas the plural –s in English is vocalised, the French one is not. Thus whether une table (one/a table) or deux tables (two tables), the pronunciation of table(s) does not change. The French definite article (le (the)) has a plural form when preceding a plural noun (les), and the French indefinite plural article des (some).
Examples:
Definite Plural Article: Elle mange les bonbons She is eating the candies
Indefinite Plural Article: Elle mange des bonbons She is eating (some) candies
Les Devoirs: 1) Colours & Shapes worksheet on 11 x17" paper. Identify the shape, add
the appropriate article, colour accoring to the instructions. There is a
bonus question in the lower right-hand corner!
2) Les Jeux Internet log sheet. Play the new games I have put on this
webpage. Most of the new games are below but I have added some new
ones above, too, which review past concepts. You must play different
games which cover different concepts, and do some listening
(audio) activities. Write down which games you played and what your score was. If it was a timed activity, write down your time. Have FUN!! :)

The very inside (the centre) must have coloured diagrams / drawings that represent the corresponding verb actions.
This will be marked out of 40. You may use BIG paper to make a BIG cootie catcher if you want to :)
Use colour, and a ruler to make it look nice; make a rough copy if you think you need to try it once and then make a good one.

lundi, le 19 septembre - Block C: Introductions, Review of French numbers 1-100, days of the week, months, NEW: French Alphabet pronunciation (listen to pronunciation here: http://chillola.com/at/french%20alphabet.html - click the speaker symbol and it's written out here http://www.france-property-and-information.com/french_alphabet.htm)
Remarks and advice
You should have no problem in learning and memorising the letters of the alphabet, but becareful with the following E and I, G and J.
- The French "e" sounds like the English "e" of "Earth"
- The French "i" sounds like the English "e" of "Equal"
- The "g" is smilar to the English "j"
- The "j" is similar to the English "g"
Some of the individual letters can have accents, which change the way they are pronounced. Following are the different versions: â, ç, é, è, ê, î, ï. These are not different or additional letters, they are merely letters with accents.
The letter H is not pronounced, or to be more accurate, is pronounced very lightly.
The pronunciation of letters is also affected by their position. If the last letter of a word is a consonant, it is not pronounced unless:
- the first letter of the next work is a vowel, or
- the consonant is a C, F, L, or R. These four consonants are pronounced even if they are at the end of a word. The way to remember this is to remember the word "careful", which has the same four consonants.

Today: Practice speaking about favorite music, favorite colours:
Q:"Quelle est ta couleur préférée?" A: "Ma couleur préférée est le bleu!"
Q: "Quelle est ta groupe musicale préférée?" A: "Ma groupe musicale préférée est The Red Hot Chili Peppers!"
A: "La groupe musicale préférée de Nicole est Aerosmith!"
Q: "Quel est ton chanteur préféré? A: "Le chanteur préférée de Sara est Justin Beiber!" /
Q: "Quel est ta chanteuse préférée? A: "La chanteuse préférée de Rayman est Lady Gaga!" (féminin!)
Labeling classroom objects: correct the purple sheet together, watch out for definite VS. indefinite articles!
New Concept: Plural endings of nouns. General rule: add ~s like in English.
Exceptions: Singular --> Plural Ending
Have FUN!! :)
